On April 09, MERS responded on their 12th Call this year for a horse that was down in an outside round pen area. Upon our arrival, we were notified that the horse had been down for several hours. We had to remove 2 cattle pens and barbed wire to safely attend to the horse. We immediately took vitals and asked the owner to call a veterinarian. The Hydration state as well as the Borborygmus came back less than positive. We then used our specialized equipment and safely raised the horse up, with the help of the owners tractor. Once up, we were able to get the horse to stand on it’s own. After a short time, we released our equipment from the horse, and walked the horse out. The veterinarian arrived, did an evaluation, and treated the horse for colic. We stayed on the scene for a short time unitl the veterinarian released us. Upon our departure, the horse was in a stall and well on it’s way to recovery!
